THE new Forth road bridge will be the most expensive crossing of its kind in the world, a Mail on Sunday study has found.
With an expected [pounds sterling]2.3 billion budget, it is set to cost about four times as much to build as the original bridge and three times the average cost of similar bridge projects worldwide.
Last night, one of Scotland's most respected economists said he feared that the bridge was wildly overpriced and could waste hundreds of millions of pounds of public money.
