A South Korean leather goods company has joined forces with a U.S. solar company to buy the closed Hynix plant in west Eugene and manufacture solar cells and modules there, according to a Korean business publication. The deal could mean up to 1,000 new jobs.
Uni-Chem, which is based in Kyonggi, South Korea, and Massachusetts-based Spire Corp. are paying $50 million for the plant, according to a report in the Hankyung Economic News cited by The Oregonian.
