Jul. 11--A new classified advertising computer system will go into service at The Californian beginning Monday, a change that will result in a brighter and easier-to-read section.

In conjunction with the new system's introduction, the newspaper will also change the way it accepts orders for classified advertising.

Customers placing private party classified ads will now be required to pay in advance by check or credit card, or their accounts will be charged an additional $5 handling fee, said John Wells, vice president of sales and strategic initiatives for the newspaper.
