He still has a `C' on his chest and a contract in his pocket, but there is no way around it: Jason Varitek's 12-year run behind the plate for the Red Sox ends when these playoffs end.
Three weeks after sending Josh Reddick up to hit for Varitek, Sox manager Terry Francona sent Dusty Brown into the game Sunday to take Varitek's place in the field. It was a classy move by the manager who wanted his captain to hear the Fenway cheers one last time, but it left us to wonder: Is this the kind of thing you do for a player who will be back next season?
