LIQUOR at licenced shops across Noida and 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh comes with a " mystery tax" -- over and above the maximum retail price ( MRP) printed on the bottles.
This " illegal" tax -- Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 15 above the MRP depending on the size of the bottle -- is being levied since April 1 this year. Incidentally, April was the month when liquor baron Ponty Chadha took control of retail and wholesale distribution of alcohol in government- licenced shops in 15 districts between Bareilly and Ghaziabad.
