JOHN WAYNE churned out this sort of western by the covered wagon-load until 1939's Stagecoach made him a star. So why, in 1942, did he bother with this routine effort at all? Perhaps he felt he owed it to Republic, the studio that had nurtured him -- or perhaps he just liked working.
