BYRON Dawson, pictured, was one of the most brilliant artists the North has ever produced His work was so distinctive that he had no need to sign it.
But he shunned the public and publicity. He would often be seen walking the streets of Newcastle in a long overcoat and unkempt hair. Byron was born in 1896 and died in 1968 with no money to his name.
