WALNUT CREEK, Calif. _ Rattlesnakes shaking off their cool El Nino slumber are sinking their fangs into dogs in the East Bay as summer warmth sets up outdoor confrontations.
One Concord veterinary hospital reports treating five dogs for rattlesnake bites in the last month.
A Dublin veterinary hospital has treated two dogs for rattlesnake bites this year.
All the pets survived, but veterinarians warn the bites can be fatal, and the treatment can cost $1,000 or more.
