High salaries of CEOs must be seen in the context of the wealth they help generate

UNION corporate affairs minister Salman Khurshid's attack on bulge bracket CEO pay packets may have struck a populist chord, but has come under growing fire from corporates, who say that while nobody has any quarrel with the concept of austerity or nonostentatious lifestyles, the money top managers earn has to be seen in the context of the wealth they help generate.

While some compensation packages may look very large when viewed in isolation, they need to be seen in the context of the size and complexity of the tasks performed by these managers, they argue.
