Members of the Wayne County Airport Authority unanimously approved a fiscal year 2010 budget Tuesday, increasing costs for airlines serving Detroit but also trimming the authority's own expenses. All told, airlines will pay the equivalent of $9.61 per emplaned passenger, a 17 percent increase over this year. That alone will not likely impact fares.

But the authority will share the pain. In addition to wage freezes and increased cost-sharing of benefits for employees, 109 authority workers have received pink slips. The employees are being cut from a variety of airport positions.
