Article: United States: Mississippi Power wants a new lignite power plant.

Officials with Mississippi Power who hope to gain state approval of a $2.2 billion coal burning plant in Kemper County say if the plan succeeds their customers would avoid paying much more for power later.

They say they must get new power sources to meet future demand and the Kemper County plan is the best way to do it. The Mississippi Public Service Commission will hold a series of hearings on the projects beginning next week in Jackson. Final approval on the plan could come in May.
