NEW YORK -- Diane Merrick is a self-proclaimed "trade-show junkie," and she is not alone.
Merrick, who readily admits, "I'll go anywhere for a trade show," is a colorful member of the large group of retailers who count on trade shows to drum up business for their stores. These shows are where they look for the unusual items they hope will set them apart from major chains and department stores.
