Taped reports coming from the people in Tehran's streets differed markedly from the accounts given in the state-controlled media. Asked about traditional news outlets relying on people in the street in Iran, internet guru Clay Shirky said, "I keep [thinking] about 1968 during the riots in Chicago--the chant 'The whole world is watching,' and that wasn't true then, but it is now."
