We asked a handful of hip players to name their favorite Wes Montgomery tracks (or most beloved album), and describe what makes his music so timeless.
Charlie Hunter
"My two favorite tracks are both on Boss Guitar [Riverside]. `The Trick Bag' is one of the baddest guitar solos of all time, with the slammingest time and the best tone. Where I'm coming from, that's the shit. And `Dearly Beloved'--it rocks' Again, it's about time and tone. I heard he used a Standel amp for the Boss Guitar sessions. Nobody knows for sure, because he changed amps so often. But Wes got a great tone whatever he played through. The tone was in his hands."
