FORMER champions Al Najma recorded a resounding 34-25 victory over contenders Al Ettefaq yesterday as they started their campaign on a high note in the 2009/10 Bahrain Handball League.

Veteran captain Mohammed Abdulnabi guided Al Najma to pass their first test of the season in their bid to win back the trophy they last won two years ago.

It was also a sweet victory for Al Najma who avenged their historic defeat to Al Ettefaq last season which threw them out of the title race.

Under their new Algerian coach Busufyan Drausi, who replaced compatriot Saleh Bushokrio, Al Najma were boosted with the return of their key injured players.
