AN UNDERSTANDING OF ACCULTURATION PROCESSES is of increasing importance as the influx of immigrants to the United States continues to grow. Currently, the percentage of the U.S. population that is foreign born is at its highest level since the Second World War and is accelerating at a record pace, according to the U.S. Census Bureau (Holmes, 1995).
