WORCESTER - Allegro MicroSystems Inc., which manufactures and sells integrated circuits used in everything from cars to printers, said yesterday it will phase out its Worcester wafer fabrication operations by mid-2012, resulting in the elimination of 190 jobs.

Allegro, headquartered at 115 Northeast Cutoff, said it will transfer its wafer fabrication activities to Polar Semiconductor Inc. in Bloomington, Minn. PSI is owned by Allegro's parent company, Sanken Electric Co. of Japan.
