ONE morning last year, my daughter Molly came downstairs to breakfast wearing so much eye make-up that my jaw dropped.

'Er, that's quite a lot of eye shadow for a school day ...' I ventured weakly.

'Oh I know,' she said sweetly. 'It's from the 'how to do smoky eyes' chapter we were working on at the weekend. I thought I'd give it another whirl.' Touche. I asked for that. No sane parent is ever going to encourage their little girl to wear make-up, but as Molly and I have written a book on skincare and make-up for teenagers, I'm hardly in a position to tell her not to.
