Oct 12, 2009 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The European Union's (EU) new climate change legislation is expected to have a major impact on the airline sector. Airlines will be required to purchase greenhouse gas permits from 2012, as part of the EU's bid to cap emissions. Air Berlin said the program would cost the airline sector around 1.5 billion euros ($A2.2bn) per year.
