Article: United Kingdom: BT Increases Rollout Of Fastest Broadband Speeds.

U.K. telecoms giant BT Group PLC (BT.LN) said it will more than double the number of homes in the U.K. that will be able to receive the fastest broadband speeds as part of its fibre broadband deployment program.

The fastest speeds are achieved when BT runs fibre-optic cables all the way to the home, instead of just to the cabinet, where the last leg of the Internet journey is delivered by the existing copper wire.

Fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) will be able to offer broadband speeds up to 100 megabits per second, and more if the demand is there, whereas fibre-to-the- cabinet (FTTC) will deliver initial speeds of up to 40 Mb per second.
