Emerson Electric EMR announced that it is acquiring information technology firm Avocent Corp. AVCT for $25 per share in cash, which is roughly $1.2 billion. At first glance, acquiring Avocent's technology helps Emerson beef up its product offering to data centers with Avocent's strong market position in KVM switches. This should help Emerson make the technology infrastructure in a data center more automated and improve optimization capabilities as well as reduce energy consumption.
