The sound of hammers and drills could soon echo across Big Spring International Park. Tonight, the Huntsville City Council will vote on hiring general contractors for a 21,000-square-foot expansion of the Museum of Art plus a major overhaul of the aging Von Braun Center. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in City Hall, 308 Fountain Circle.
The high-profile construction projects on opposite sides of the park will cost taxpayers about $21 million, with private donors kicking in millions more. The new art museum wing is expected to be ready by next Halloween; the VBC work will take longer.
