The Charles Turner Sports Complex on East Fork Road has a new neighbor after the High Point City Council annexed approximately 2.6 acres nearby on Penny Road.
At its Sept. 21 meeting, the council voted to take in the property and develop it as an electrical substation to keep up with High Point's rapid growth in the northeastern area.
The undeveloped property lies on approximately 280 feet of frontage at 1646 Penny Road, just south of the intersection with East Fork Road. The northern edge of Turner Sports Complex, owned by the Town of Jamestown and next to Jamestown Park, touches the southeast corner.
