Following are major managed-care players in Indiana, including health-maintenance organizations (which must be licensed by the Indiana Department of Insurance) and preferred-provider organizations (which need only be registered). The cities listed indicate either headquarters or main Indiana offices of these plans. A glossary of common managed-care terms follows these listings on page 43.
Aetna U.S. Healthcare, Indianapolis, is a POS, PPO and indemnity company with 239,279 Indiana members. Some 4,055 physicians and 45 participating hospitals serve 36 counties. Aetna will begin offering HMO services in the spring. 317/815-4300
