SYDNEY, Oct 13 Asia Pulse - The Australian sharemarket opened higher on Tuesday after Wall Street gained overnight.
At 1018 AEDT, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 27.1 points, or 0.57 per cent, at 4766.9, while the broader All Ordinaries had gained 27.2 points, or 0.57 per cent, to 4771.8.
On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index contract was 15 points higher at 4773, on a volume of 4208 contracts.
Among the major banks, ANZ Banking Group was up 21 cents at .42, National Australia Bank added 12 cents to $31.13, Westpac lifted 15 cents to $25.99, and Commonwealth Bank was 24 cents higher at $52.88.
