Strong local management has been the key to the impressive turnaround enjoyed by Back Yard Burgers Inc. restaurants in central Arkansas, says Lattie Michael, chairman, founder and chief executive officer of the Memphis-based company.
Only less than two years ago, Michael says, the central Arkansas restaurants were losing money under a non-Arkansas management team.
"We struggled [in central Arkansas] because we didn't think we had that home-grown feeling," Michael says, and because the operator didn't have an equity position in the company.
