Ten years ago Barry Baines dreamed of owning some land up north. His background was in marketing and business development, quantity surveying and engineering. His wife Verity had worked for Statistics New Zealand. They both could envisage the impact the planned Puhoi motorway extension would have on land values north of Auckland and knew the time was right to invest for their retirement.
