Jul. 24--America West Express, America West Airlines' commuter service out of Phoenix, will more than double in size under a new agreement with Mesa Airlines.
Initially, new flights are planned to Bakersfield, Calif., three Colorado resort towns and Hermosillo and Guaymas, Mexico. Service to Des Moines, Iowa, and Fresno, Calif., will be increased. In the future, commuter service could be added out of America West's Las Vegas and Columbus, Ohio, hubs.
The ambitious expansion plans come just a few months after New Mexico-based Mesa nearly lost the America West business.
