Officials from Turkey and Syria have held the first meeting of a new cooperation council, aimed at ending years of tension.

On Tuesday Ahmet Davutoglu, the Turkish foreign minister, led a high level cabinet delegation to the Syrian city of Aleppo for the meeting, which took place under a recent strategic agreement designed to improve ties.

Among the first measures enacted was a joint agreement to remove visa requirements for travel between the two countries.

The meeting is the latest step in ending years of mistrust over Turkish accusations of Syrian support for the banned separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party ...
