CURRENT-DOLLAR personal income growth slowed in 2008 most of the nation's metropolitan statistical areas, according to statistics from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. (1) Personal income growth slowed in 322 metropolitan areas, increased in 42 areas, and remained unchanged in 2 areas. In five metropolitan areas, personal income declined. On average, metropolitan area personal income grew 3.3 percent in 2008, down from 6.0 percent in 2007. In 2008, metropolitan areas accounted for 88 percent of U.S. personal income.
