The Tokyo Motor Show, once known as Asia's premier international auto exhibition, will be a domestic event this year. Almost all major international players canceled plans to attend because of the economic crisis.
Only 11 makers will show passenger vehicles, down from 35 at the last Tokyo show in 2007 (see story at right).
Toyota Motor Corp., Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Suzuki Motor Corp. are rolling out plug-in hybrids. Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. will show electric vehicles.
