Court to hear Skilling appeal

WASHINGTON u The U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday agreed to hear former Enron Corp. Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey SkillingAEs appeal of his conviction for leading the fraud that destroyed the worldAEs largest energy trader. A jury in 2006 found Skilling, 55, and former Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay guilty of using fraudulent accounting and off-the-books partnerships to deceive investors, analysts and employees about the companyAEs deteriorating financial condition. A Supreme Court ruling in SkillingAEs favor could lead to a new trial. Skilling was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison.
