Quick aid is urged for state's dairy farmers
New York dairy farmers are expected to receive $290 million in emergency payments after Congress passed a $121 billion agriculture spending bill, which President Obama is expected to sign shortly.
Now, New York Farm Bureau President Dean Norton is urging that the money be distributed to farmers quickly.
"With dairy farmers losing an estimated $30,000 a month, the funds cannot come quickly enough to help farm families, their employees, and associated agricultural businesses who have already extended credit lines and are now faced with many open accounts," Norton said.
