BRISBANE, Oct 15 Asia Pulse - A Labor boss has lampooned Queensland's manufacturing industry saying it could be reduced to using an allen key to assemble imported industrial plants.
Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) state secretary and Australian Labor Party (ALP) state president Andrew Dettmer said major facilities are increasingly being manufactured overseas and shipped to Australia for assembly - denying local workers the ability to earn a living or develop their skills.
Mr Dettmer said there were plenty of examples of pre-assembled plants that had turned out to be expensive lemons.
