CIT Group, the finance company struggling to stay out of bankruptcy, said on Monday that its chairman and chief executive, Jeffrey Peek, will resign. His resignation is effective Dec. 31. The company said its board has formed a search committee to hire a replacement. Peek joined CIT in 2003 as president and chief operating officer. He was previously

vice chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston and responsible for that firm's financial services division. At the Swiss bank, Peek was also on the group executive board and the operating committee.
