Jul. 29--CHICAGO--The end of the United Auto Workers' strikes against General Motors Corp. came at a good time for the carmaker's thousands of dealers.
Bare spots had already shown up on San Luis Obispo County new-car lots where the automaker's most popular models should have been.
But after nearly two months of lost production, dealers across the country generally say their inventories have shrunk to about a four-week supply of vehicles -- and that is just about as long as it will take GM to get cars and light trucks from its newly restarted factories to their showrooms.
