When we began looking for "rising stars" for this year's ranking of top PC software companies, a few analysts suggested we might come up empty-handed. "I don't want to sound flip," said Roger McNamee of Integral Capital, "but from my vantage point there are no new PC software companies on the radar. What I see instead are zillions of hot enterprise software companies, as well as lots of Web-oriented companies--most of whom sell a server, as well as client software."
