UP to 1,000 foreign workers have been helped by the Migrant Workers Protection Society (MWPS) over the past four years, according to figures released yesterday.

They include as many as 450 domestic workers housed at its shelter and 500 labourers.

However, action committee head Marietta Dias revealed this was merely the tip of the iceberg and said many more could be suffering in silence.

Speaking to the GDN yesterday amid preparations for the organisation's Pearl Charity Ball, she said an element of intimidation still existed among abused, low-income expat workers.
