WHERE once it was the canteen for medieval "black" friars, today you're more likely to see chaps in black and white shirts tucking into the hearty rustic fare.
And it may be the oldest purpose-built restaurant in Britain - starting life as a monks' refectory in 1239 - but Blackfriars in Newcastle has a decidedly fresh and exciting feel to the menu.
