Today's legend of Auburn is a longtime local athlete who has excelled in several sports and has been part of the Auburn sports scene from the 1940's right up to now. What about Nicholas "Nick" (or "Chinky") Bashta?
Nick Bashta was born Nov. 22, 1926, at Auburn Memorial Hospital. His mom was Mary Sheftic, who worked at Columbian Rope Co. His dad was Bill Bashta, who worked for the Lehigh Valley Railroad but died at the young age of 48.
Their homestead was at 17 Derby Ave. Nick first attended North Division Street School and then Seymour Street School. Nick went to West High School and graduated in 1946.
