When James MacMillan's percussion concerto "Veni, Veni, Emmanuel" became a program replacement for a work originally scheduled to be performed by Orquestra Sao Paulo and Dame Evelyn Glennie during their current series of concerts in Brazil and the United States, it probably helped that Glennie already knew the piece.
Indeed, the internationally acclaimed Scottish percussionist performed the work when it received its world premiere in 1992 at the Royal Albert Hall, London, with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
Still, Glennie wasn't sounding remotely complacent about revisiting the composition during a telephone interview ...
