The National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia was founded 70 years ago as a private institution with the mission to improve the standard of living for the independent coffee growers of Colombia. Today there are about 500,000 self-owned coffee plantations that average 3-5 hectares in size. These growers voluntarily ally themselves and form the Federation.
In Colombia, coffee is grown on the slopes of the three Andean mountain ranges. The terrain makes mechanization impossible and production is still completely a hand operation.
