Metatec, Technicolor parent make moves to strengthen optical replication positions.
Consolidation marked the optical media replication business in the month of June as two major deals were announced within a week. First, Metatec announced plans to purchase the assets of Imation's CD/DVD replication business. Carlton Communications, the UK-based parent company of Technicolor, followed a few days later with a $264 million bid for the outstanding shares of Nimbus CD International.
While Imation's optical media replication unit had been on the sale block since last fall, Carlton's bid for Nimbus CD came as a surprise to many in the industry. The deal was announced ...
