Some invitations are too intriguing to turn down. So when American bicycle maker Cannondale invites Popular Mechanics to watch it attempt to forge the most perfect union of man and machine possible without bionic surgery, we hop on a plane for Turin, Italy.
"Mr. Antonello Cogotti does not like me to call his Aerodynamic and Aero-acoustic Research Center a wind tunnel, but I welcome you to our wind tunnel anyway," says Lorenza Pininfarina, the granddaughter of the founder of the legendary coachworks. Only today, research director Cogotti's lab is testing bicycles, not cars or airplanes.
