INTRODUCTION

Rapid progress in industrial activities during recent years has led to the discharge of unprecedented amount of wastewater containing synthetic dyes, which pollutes the rivers and consequently causes harm to human and other living organisms. A majority of the used dyes are azo reactive dyes (1). These are bright color dyes due to the presence of one or several azo (-N = N-) groups associated with substituted aromatic structures (2).
