Pension boards' plan for new building hits roadblock
The Detroit retirement systems have hit a snag in their effort to build a new riverfront headquarters.
Last week, the City Planning Commission voted to recommend denial of the pension boards' request to rezone the property at 7850 E. Jefferson Blvd. from high-density residential to planned development, a use that would permit the construction of an office building.
Conceived as a joint venture between the city's General Retirement System and the Police and Fire Retirement System, the plan calls for construction of a roughly 30,000-square-foot office building.
