On April 6 - 7, 1898, 26 "park men," leaders of parks in New England Cities, gathered at Boston's Brunswick Hotel at the request of George A, Parker, superintendent of Keney (CT) Park, to discuss common issues and share perspectives. From this two-day meeting, the New England Association of Park Superintendents came into existence. In the text of the following original letter, Theodore Wirth, superintendent of parks, Hartford, Connecticut, relates the significance of this early meeting to his son, Walter L. Wirth.
