Aug. 13--Pizza Hut Inc. made a delivery Wednesday to rival Papa John's International Inc.: a federal lawsuit accusing Papa John's of misleading consumers about the two companies' pizzas.
Pizza Hut is miffed because in its ads, Papa John's claims to put out "better ingredients, better pizza." In fact, Pizza Hut alleged, Papa John's dough and sauce aren't as fresh as Papa John's claims.
"For example, they've been talking about their sauce and they imply their sauce is fresh," said Pizza Hut president Mike Rawlins. "The consumers see their advertising and believe it. It's canned. So it's not true that it's fresh."
