Aug. 18--You've seen the DVD-ROM computers in stores and wondered how the new technology could affect your personal computing. Does it mean obsolescence for your CD-ROM drive and CD games? Or is it another fad that eventually will go away?
From most accounts, it's not likely that the digital versatile disc, also called a digital video disc, will disappear. In fact, many experts predict that the format will replace videocassette players and CD-ROM machines. So the key question becomes, "Is DVD-ROM necessary now?"
