During the bicentennial year of 1976, an effort began to locate authentic Milking Devon cattle for Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. There were virtually none to be found.
A group of these Village workers teamed up with local farmers to form an organization, which has been growing annually, to find out about breeds that had once been an important part of American farm life.
